Intolerance Seems to be Rampant

Intolerance seems to be on the rise this year.  Someone in Boulder, Colorado, keeps stealing the McCain/Palin yard signs from one house.  And, in Seattle, the “newspaper” The Stranger actually ran a top story giving out the addresses of houses with McCain/Palin signs, calling them “hell houses.”

Seems the art of dissent is being lost on a lot of people.  And, a rise in intolerance is worrisome.  Both sides of the aisle are guilty of intolerance, but it seems to be prevalent on the Democrat side in this particular election.

When you have to post a sign like this, asking people to respect your First Amendment Right to free speech, then something is wrong.  Face the State found this situation in near Cherry Creek in Denver.  So now we have to rig our yards sign with contraptions to capture people stealing them?  Good grief.

Read about the one Denver resident who is standing up to “sign snatching.”

But in Seattle’s Mercer Island, it’s getting even worse.  Apparently, these kinds of signs on houses can mean only one thing: the most pants-wettingly scary
houses, sure to give you night terrors well past Halloween and all the
way until November 4. Because in an election year, nothing’s more
terrifying than the future.

What’s interesting about this story are two things.

First, this so-called newspaper decided to find houses on Mercer Island that exhibited signs of support for Republican candidates in Washington or that supported McCain/Palin.  But, they went even further, actually publishing the addresses of those houses in their “newspaper.”

The second interesting thing about this story is that after The Drudge Report posted a story about it, the newspapers lawyers must have realized what a mistake they made and pulled the story. So, if you want to see the development of this story of intolerance, you have to first read the forums in The Stranger.

Then, after you’ve read The Stranger forum, go read the one blog (other than this one) that managed to pick up the story and tell you what’s happened since publication by The Drudge Report.  You can find that blog at Geobent.

Geobent aptly named their entry, “well, they shut it down so I’m gonna open it back up.”

Good for you, Geobent.

Intolerance shouldn’t be part of a free society. David Wark Griffith. Intolerance. 1916

Intolerance. Unacceptable.

UPDATE:

Seems the “newspaper” The Stranger has decided to address this issue.  You can read their response to the response to their article on their blog, The Slog.
