My friend Brian Williams at NBC Nightly News had a segment tonight on the removal of the puffer machines from airports around the country. Considering that General Electric was one of the manufacturers of these machines, I was amazed at Brian’s “editorial” presentation on the removal of the machines:

As I’ve said before, check the cargo. I just want to make sure the passengers on the planes don’t have knives or guns. The days of taking over a plane as was done on 9/11 are over. The game has changed. I cannot imagine anyone sitting idly by while a Richard Reed tries to light a sneaker, or some idiot goes charging toward the (now secured) cockpit doors. Don’t believe me, just consider how often flight attendants are turning belligerent passengers into the FBI or local police for far less egregious actions.
We’re still fighting the last battle.
